AAFPRS Reports More Women Looking for Inexpensive Cosmetic Surgery Options

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on June 15, 2010

The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) recently conducted a survey in conjunction with Dermik Laboratories, and found that more than half of women considering facial plastic surgery turned to injectables and other non-surgical cosmetic procedures to save money during the economic downturn.

Among the most sought-after procedures for women in this category were Sculptra, an innovative injectable that can treat wrinkles and reduce the appearance of deeper lines and folds in the skin, and fractional resurfacing, a treatment that can help remove the top layer of skin and also reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Other popular procedures include Thermage skin tightening treatments that help to strengthen and tighten the skin by promoting collagen growth. Reaction by Viora, another innovative anti-aging procedure, uses radiofrequency energy to promote collagen production and also strengthens, tightens and tones the skin.

Traditional facelift surgery can cost anywhere from $4,000 to $6,000+ depending on the location of the surgery center, doctor and the extent of the procedure. Alternatives to facelift surgery can cost less than $1,000 in many cases, but some only offer temporary results that do require touch-up treatments to maintain the youthful appearance. Among the top minimally-invasive facial rejuvenation procedures are Botox, the “liquid facelift” that consists of a series of fillers injected into the facial compartments, and IPL skin rejuvenation procedures.

All of these facelift alternatives promise less downtime, minimal pain, and can be a cost-effective option for those who do not want to undergo traditional surgery and deal with the side effects. In most cases, non-invasive options can produce instant results, or noticeable results within a two or three week time frame. Skin tightening and radio frequency treatments offer gradual improvements over a three to six month period, and in some cases, the effects can last for up to a year or more.
