The Zerona laser procedure is now available at several plastic and cosmetic surgery centers around the country, and is quickly becoming a popular treatment for reshaping the body and reducing inches around the waist, hips and thighs – without surgery.
Erchonia, the manufacturer of the Zerona laser, has now developed a hand-held laser device to help with the pain associated with liposuction and breast augmentation procedures. The FDA-cleared device helps to reduce pain and swelling after certain procedures, and makes a significant difference in how the fat is emulsified before it is extracted.
Dr. Thomas Barnes, a cosmetic surgeon in Newport Beach, uses the hand held device at his practice and reports that, “Using the handheld device actually makes the lipo easier and the fat I remove looks different – it’s more like a liquid. I have used it in thousands of cases – it makes my job easier and it speeds healing too.” (Source: AmericanHealthandBeauty.com)
The laser from the device causes a pore to open in the fatty cell, and the fat is released into the interstitial space which makes it easier for the surgeon to extract the entire cell. This facilitates patient recovery and reduces the risk of surgical trauma, ecchymoses and hematomas, reports American Health and Beauty.
For patients undergoing the breast implant procedure, the risk of scar tissue forming around the implant is decreased with the Zerona laser procedure. This can reduce the risk of breast deformities after the implant is inserted, and help improve patient recovery times. Patients reported less pain, inflammation and discomfort after the Zerona treatment with breast augmentation than those that underwent traditional surgery.
The Zerona hand-held laser device is currently used by a handful of plastic and cosmetic surgeons in the United States, but may soon become available at more practices and clinics over the course of the year.

One of the latest body contouring procedures has been deemed a “non-invasive liposuction breakthrough” by many doctors around the world, and is now becoming a popular procedure at many medical spas and cosmetic surgery centers around the United States. The Zerona laser is an innovative fat reduction procedure that promises to zap away inches without surgery. Now, patients interested in learning more about Zerona can participate in the Zerona Laser Forum that helps answer some of the questions and concerns surrounding the Zerona treatment.
The Zerona Laser Forum has been developed by an online consumer advocacy group that is comprised of a nationwide network of plastic surgeons, medical spas and health clubs. The goal of the forum is to provide non-surgical cosmetic patients with more treatment information, access to licensed professionals in the area, and also offers live representative assistance.
The Zerona laser procedure is designed to remove excess body fat around the hips, thighs, buttocks, abdomen and stomach, and is suitable for both men and women of average or slightly-above average weight. The treatment promises to be an effective alternative to liposuction, and has slowly gained popularity in the United States as an innovative body contouring solution.
Zerona’s treatment process involves five low-level laser diodes that are applied externally to the front and back of the patient’s body. The total treatment time lasts about 40 minutes and most people need to undergo a series of at least six sessions over a two week period in order to see results. Since the procedure is non-invasive, patients can return to work and physical activities immediately after the procedure.
The average price of a series of six treatments ranges between $2,500 to $4,000+ depending on the location of the treatment facility and the number of sessions.

The Zerona laser has been in the media spotlight recently with appearances on the television talk show “The Doctors”, as well as the “Rachel Ray Show”.
Zerona also appeared in Harper’s Bazaar Magazine and other lifestyle publications as the latest alternative to liposuction surgery. Now, the Skin Physicians and Surgeons (SkinPS) dermatology practice in Rancho Cucamonga has unveiled the procedure for its clients.
Zerona costs less than conventional liposuction and may offer similar benefits in some people. According to Sandra Lee, M.D., one of the three board-certified dermatologists at SkinPS, “People clearly see that this [Zerona] is a cost benefit to them.” Dr. Lee says that the procedure does not require the patient to undergo any anesthesia, and that most patients will see results after a series of six treatments over a two week period.
Zerona treatments typically last about 40 minutes, with 20 minutes for the front of the body and 20 minutes for the back. The procedure is designed to stimulate the release of fat cells which are eliminated through the body’s natural elimination process. Studies and trials with the Zerona laser showed an average reduction of 3.5 inches from the hips, waist and thighs after six treatments.
SkinPS is among the few plastic surgery centers in California to be set up for the Zerona laser system, and the procedure is appearing in major markets in the U.S. including Chicago, New York and select cities in Florida.
Some experts believe that Zerona is a valuable alternative to liposuction an can help many people lose a few unwanted pounds without undergoing surgery. However, Zerona can only be used to treat subcutaneous fat, which means that any layers of fat sitting directly on top of the skeletal system can only be removed with surgery. The Zerona laser does not involve any downtime or incisions, and in some cases, can be performed over the patient’s lunch hour.

The Zerona laser system has been in the spotlight lately as doctors around the country have unveiled this surgery-free fat removal procedure. Zerona is designed to remove fat and reshape the body without needles and promises little to now downtime. The innovative laser system works from the outside to melt the fat under the skin tissues and releases it into interstitial space. The excess fat is passed through the body through detoxification, and is designed to be a replacement to conventional surgery for those who need to lose only a few pounds and inches.
The Zerona laser was featured on the Rachael Ray show in September 2009, and the doctor performing the demonstration stated that most people could lose about 4 inches of body fat after a series of treatments. The procedure does not require any anesthesia because the low-level laser is administered directly onto the skin without causing any discomfort. Similar types of lasers have been used for over 40 years to treat chronic pain and help to heal wounds.
Zerona only works after the patient undergoes a series of several treatments, and these can be administered three times a week for two weeks. Each treatment takes about 40 minutes, and the laser can be administered to the waist, hips, thighs and other areas of the body.
Zerona is backed by clinical trials and several studies, and is currently available in several cosmetic surgery centers in the United States. The excess fat is removed gradually from the body a few days after the laser treatment, and is not designed to be a quick-fix solution for weight loss. The procedure is designed to create a shapelier, more attractive figure in a painless way. Some people may need to undergo more treatments at closer intervals to achieve significant results.

One of the latest innovations in fat removal procedures is the Zerona laser, a non-invasive procedure that promises to melt the fat under the skin and releases it from the body naturally. This procedure does not involve any medication or incisions, and patients can return to regular activities immediately after the treatment. The device is relatively new to the United States, and has most recently been adopted by Aspect Beauty Medical Spa in Sherman Oaks, one of the first to offer non-invasive fat reduction in Los Angeles.
According to a recent press release about the launch of Zerona at this Los Angeles Medspa, Director Jennifer Gold explains, “We are very excited to be launching the Zerona at the Fashion Square Mall in Sherman Oaks. The opportunity to provide this new fat reducing procedure with our Medically Supervised Weight Loss program allows us to really help men and women achieve their weight and measurement goals.”
The Zerona system involves a cold laser application directly to the top of the skin. The laser energy penetrates deep into the skin tissues to emulsify the fatty deposits, and the broken-down fat cells are then excreted through the urine or by sweating. The Zerona procedure is backed by clinical trials, and was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration in April 2009.
Results from the controlled study show that patients lost approximately 3.5 to 9 inches after a series of Zerona body sculpting treatments (six sessions over two weeks), compared to just half an inch in the placebo group. Candidates that undergo this procedure must maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating a well-balanced diet and exercising regularly in order to achieve desired results.
The Zerona laser is slowly making its way into other markets, and this liposuction alternative is already available in Boca Raton, Florida, Boston Massachusetts, and South Pasadena, California.

If a few pounds of body fat around the thighs, hips and stomach aren’t responding to diet or exercise, liposuction may not be your only option. While liposuction does offer permanent fat removal, there are several risks involved and the procedure can be very painful. The Zerona laser promises ‘painless liposuction’ with its innovative technology. It was approved by the FDA five years ago, and has slowly become a popular non-surgical treatment for those who want to get rid of body fat without surgery.
The Zerona laser works by melting the fat cells and breaking down fatty tissues from the outside. The energy of the laser is powerful enough to break down only fatty tissues, so none of the surrounding tissues and cells are traumatized. It’s important to note that the Zerona laser is a cold laser that uses energy waves to emulsify the fat; this means there is no risk of burning or scarred skin that is often the case with heat-based lasers. The procedure is designed to be a body-sculpting and contouring procedure, and the manufacturers of the laser claim that patients do not need to worry about any downtime.
The Zerona laser was recently featured on “The Doctors” TV show. Dr. Alan Bauman of the Bauman Medical Group in Boca Raton, Florida is one of the first surgeons in the United States to offer this procedure. His website claims that the procedure is 100% painless, and patients require about six 40-minute treatments over the course of two weeks to see a difference. There is no pain, swelling or needles involved, and the procedure can be performed on the neck, back, knees and arms.
You can learn more about the Zerona laser with this clip from the Channel 10 News in South Florida:
