Heidi Montag’s Plastic Surgeon Dies in a Car Crash

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on August 28, 2010

Heidi Montag has been in the media spotlight in the past few months for her plastic surgery “addiction” and slew of cosmetic procedures that have completely transformed here appreance. The reality star’s plastic surgeon was recently killed in a car accident after becoming trapped in a vehicle and suffering major head injuries. His Jeep veered off the Pacific Coast Highway and the Ventura County Fire Department attempted to pull him out of the car using a helicopter, but had to call it off. Dr. Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to entertainment website, Dr. Frank Ryan performed a total of ten cosmetic procedures in one day on Heidi Montag. Newsweek reports that Heidi Montag has undergone a nose job, breast implants, collagen lip injections and several other procedures before she turned 21. Heidi told People Magazine that she is completely obsessed with plastic surgery and has no problems going under the knife again.

Here procedures cost over $30,000, and she reportedly spent ten hours in the operating room. Statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery show that cosmetic surgery procedures performed on teens have nearly doubled in the past decade. Teens under the age of 18 do need parental consent to undergo Botox injections, breast implants, liposuction and other types of procedures – and many do. While Heidi has worked hard to conform to a male standard of beauty and hopes that her new looks will help her career, many plastic and cosmetic surgeons warn against following in the heels of their favorite celeb just to improve their lives.

All board-certified plastic and cosmetic surgeons are required to do complete a face-to-face consultation with their patients and find out if the patient is mentally healthy. Those that show any signs of obsession or have very low self-esteem may be referred to a psychiatrist.

Plastic Surgeons Warn Against Following Celebrity Plastic Surgery Trends

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on August 27, 2010

Even though many celebrity worshippers change their wardrobes, color their hair and update their makeup to look like their favorite Hollywood star, plastic surgery may be an extreme measure for many. According to Dr. Michael Fiorillo, a board-certified celebrity plastic surgeon in New York City, patients who want to look exactly like their favorite celebrity may be taking their admiration too far. (Source:

All plastic and cosmetic surgery patients undergo a face-to-face consultation with their doctor to determine what their goals are, and if they are in a mentally healthy state to undergo a procedure. In some cases, the patient is suffering from body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), or has very low self-esteem. Plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures will not correct these deeper issues, and for many, psychiatric help is the best solution. Dr. Fiorillo points out that these types of patients, “need a psychiatrist, basically. You are not going to make somebody look like someone else. It is an unattainable goal.”

Still, many men and women undergo cosmetic procedures in hopes of attaining some of the most sought-after features – many that are inspired by Hollywood. Breast augmentation, lip augmentation, facelift surgery, Botox and liposuction continue to be some of the most popular procedures, especially for those who want to undergo a complete makeover and dramatically change their looks.

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons reports that 12.5 million people underwent cosmetic and plastic surgery in 2009 alone, and the numbers have increased steadily for the past decade. An increase in plastic surgery reality TV shows, more media coverage about certain procedures, and less stigma associated with getting plastic or cosmetic surgery may have spurred demand.

Many celebrities say that they will not ever consider going under the knife, and that it is important for people to appreciate their natural beauty. Still, fans continue to line up at the doctor’s office for a nip and tuck that will help them achieve their Hollywood-inspired ideal.

Bollywood Star Undergoes Cosmetic Surgery

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on August 7, 2010

Bollywood star Celina Jaitley has undergone cosmetic surgery to enhance her facial features in preparation for her new film, “Hello Darling” that will be released next month. According to the Mid Day gossip site, Celina was spotted with her new look at a promotional event for the movie.

In 2007, the actress denied that she had had any type of cosmetic surgery and was not even interested in pursuing Botox or other types of plastic surgery to improve her appearance. However, recent reports indicate that the actress has undergone some type of facial plastic surgery or cosmetic enhancements to maintain her youthful looks.

Demand for cosmetic surgery in Bollywood’s circles is still going strong, and many of the top Bollywood stars have undergone liposuction, rhinoplasty, or laser skin resurfacing procedures to achieve a more westernized look. Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has undergone liposuction and rhinoplasty, while actress Kareena Kapoor underwent surgery to achieve a sharper jaw line and have her teeth aligned. Bollywood actress Rakhi Sawant has had silicone implants.

Plastic surgery is still frowned upon in some parts of India and the Middle East, but many Bollywood stars still go under the knife and are not afraid to share what procedures they have had with the public. According to, eight out of ten Bollywood celebrities have had some form of plastic surgery, and many Bollywood fans still question whether the beauty is natural or artificial.

Plastic surgeon Vijay Sharma claims that 80% of Bollywood actors and actresses achieve and maintain their looks by getting some type of cosmetic or plastic surgery. Many celebrities do get cosmetic and plastic surgery after they have had children so that they can get back into their pre-pregnancy shape and secure a new role.

Drew Barrymore Considers Plastic Surgery

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on July 14, 2010

Drew Barrymore recently interviewed with Elle magazine, and says that she is open to going under the knife. The 35-year old Hollywood starlet says that she is keeping her options open when it comes to getting plastic surgery, stating, “I don’t want to be vain or fearful, and I don’t think I’ll do anything, but if I want to do something, I will. From my perspective, there’s no reasons to be afraid of aging, because if you age, you’re lucky! The alternative is death.”

Many of today’s most popular actors and actresses have already gone under the knife to either transform or enhance their looks. Popular celebrity cosmetic procedures include rhinoplasty, breast augmentation, liposuction and Botox. Drew Barrymore is among the younger Hollywood actresses who is considering plastic surgery, and many younger Hollywood starlets have either already gone under the knife, or are also considering it. Heidi Montag, Jessica Simpson and even Jessica Biel have had some form of cosmetic or plastic surgery in order to maintain their youthful looks.

Even though many celebs have the means to work with the nation’s top plastic and cosmetic surgeons, they are still at risk for a “botched” procedure. In recent years, many celebrities including Tara Reid, Janet Jackson, Jessica Simpson and Tori Spelling were put under the media spotlight because of a bad procedure. Fortunately, many of the effects of bad plastic or cosmetic surgery can be reversed, but the celebrity still has to live with the side effects of the procedure for several weeks or months after surgery so that the tissues can heal.

Many people who wish to look like their favorite celebrity also consider getting plastic surgery, booking appointments for procedures such as the buttock lift, lip augmentation, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation and liposuction. Some celebrities are very open about the types of procedures they have had, while others prefer to keep their secret to looking beautiful under wraps.

Kim Kardashian Admits Getting Botox

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on June 3, 2010

While many celebrities skirt the issue of whether they have had, or would have plastic surgery, others are very outspoken on the subject and are ready to share their nips and tucks with the world. Kim Kardashian and her sisters have faced many rumors about whether they have had plastic or cosmetic surgery, but Kim claims that most are “grossly exaggerated.”

Kim Kardashian and sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, and mother Kris Jenner, interviewed with ABC News’ Nightline later last month and shared the types of procedures they have had – and what they haven’t. Kim admitted that even though she’s not against plastic surgery, she has tried Botox. The rumors about Kim having breast implants or nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty) simply aren’t true. Mom Kris Jenner reports that she has never had her nose done, despite the rumors.

Kim also admits that there is a lot of pressure to be skinny, especially when she was modeling for Playboy. She states, “I was on the fence about it. Do I want to be viewed this way or do I want to show women that, hey, I am curvy. I’m not like all these stick-skinny models that I see on the cover of all those magazines, including Playboy.” As a result, Kim has not had liposuction but has had VelaShape body contouring treatments that help to tighten, tone and firm the skin.

ABC News reports that the entire family is a tabloid sensation, and have to deal with constantly being photographed and even criticized publicly about their appearance. Still, the family’s fan base continues to grow and the Kardashians have built a business empire that includes a fashion line, diet supplements and fragrances.

Among the most popular celebrity plastic surgeries are breast augmentation, lip augmentation, facelift surgery and rhinoplasty. Still, celebrities aren’t immune to the occasional plastic surgery disaster. In fact, Bruce Jenner, step dad of the Kardashians,  himself experienced a bad cosmetic surgery experience when he underwent a face lift in the 80’s and nose job that ended up in a disaster. He has since had facelift revision surgery to correct the problem.

Sharon Stone Shares Botched Cosmetic Procedure Experience

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on May 27, 2010

Hundreds of celebrities choose to go under the knife each year, improving their appearance with popular procedures including Botox, liposuction, breast implants and tummy tucks.

However, not all procedures go smoothly, and many a celebrity has been put under the media spotlight to serve as an example of plastic surgery gone bad. Sharon Stone recently interviewed with More Magazine, and admitted that she had cosmetic surgery that ended up making her look “like a trout.”

The 52-year-old actress told Phil Bronstein, an editor of the San Francisco newspaper, that she began to feel insecure about her appearance after her divorce in 2004. She tells More Magazine, that “Nobody loves me. I’m 103. My life would be better if I had better lips.” The actress underwent lip augmentation surgery as a result, and her lips ended up becoming excessively large and unshapely. She admits that the procedure was done in her ‘moment of weakness’ and that she promises never to get plastic surgery again because the procedure made her look ‘like a trout.’

Botched procedures are nothing new, even for celebrities. Stars including Heidi Montag, Joan Rivers, Bruce Jenner, Dolly Parton and Donatella Versace have all been criticized and ridiculed about their cosmetic surgery makeovers in recent years, and some even serve as a poster child for bad plastic surgery. While some plastic surgeons can perform reversal procedures, some celebs just aren’t that lucky. In many cases, the botched procedure means the celebrity needs to spend a significant amount of time recovering while nature takes its course, or undergo a completely different procedure to correct and modify the results of the previous one.

In spite of the risks involved, celebrities and the average consumer alike are still making their way to the plastic surgery office for liposuction, Botox, breast implants and other procedures. As the economy recovers, many consumers are ready to make the investment for plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures – even with the inherent risks involved.

Christie Brinkley Denies Having Plastic Surgery

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on May 5, 2010

Celebrities and models are always under the media spotlight about their latest beauty, fitness and skincare regiment, and few are free of rumors about plastic surgery.

Christie Brinkley and her daughter Sailor recently attended a mother-daughter tea party in Lenox Hill, New York and the paparazzi speculated that the 56-year-old model also checked into a Lenox Hill plastic surgery center for a few quick fixes.

A representative for Brinkley has denied that Christie underwent a facelift. Her daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, did undergo a rhinoplasty procedure at a New York plastic surgery center, and there has been speculation that Brinkley decided to go under the knife at the same time. Brinkley’s spokeswoman states that Alexa had to undergo surgery because of breathing difficulties, and that she decided to correct the appearance of her nose at the same time.

Splash News reports that the supermodel “was at Lenox Hill to support her daughter…throughout her career people have speculated that she’s done this or that, which she always chooses to take as a compliment.”

Christie Brinkley, former CoverGirl and spokesperson for the makeup brand, has attributed her well-maintained face and body to wearing a lot of sunscreen, exfoliating her skin as much as possible, and staying active. She also maintains a strict beauty regimen to keep her skin looking smooth and her face looking as youthful as possible. She has not publicly shared whether she has undergone any skin rejuvenation procedures, such as photo facials or IPL treatments to maintain her youthful look.

Some of the most popular celebrity plastic surgery procedures include breast augmentation, liposuction, rhinoplasty and facelift surgery. Popular minimally-invasive procedures include Botox, VelaShape and Endermologie. Only a handful of celebrities go public about their procedure, and the majority choose to keep their tummy tucks and cosmetic fixes under wraps.

Helen Mirren Says She Has No Problem with Plastic Surgery

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on February 22, 2010

Helen Mirren recently confessed that if she wasn’t in the Hollywood spotlight, she would have undergone plastic surgery years ago. The Oscar-winning actress recently told the Times that she would go under the knife to improve her appearance, and really does not have any issues with plastic surgery.

Mirren is one of several dozen celebrities to admit that plastic and cosmetic surgery is acceptable. Many celebs  have undergone procedures such as tummy tucks, breast augmentation, nose surgery and facelift surgery to improve their appearance, ward off the signs of aging or just to land a new role in a movie.

Others are less open about sharing the outcomes of their procedure, and many are completely against plastic surgery of any kind, preferring instead to maintain their natural appearance and let nature take its course. The plastic surgery argument continues to be a hot topic among Hollywood celebs, and stars such as Jane Fonda and Sally Field prefer to maintain their natural look and embrace the aing process instead. Jane Fonda is now in her 70s and says that she would “prefer to age gracefully and not fight the natural aging process…I have chosen not to have any more plastic surgery. Sally Field and I have kind of made a pact about that.” (Source:

Still, stars that do go under the knife while they are in the media spotlight run the risk of becoming the next “plastic surgery gone wrong” story. Some of the most famous examples of bad plastic surgery include Tara Reid’s tummy tuck, Pamela Anderson’s breast implants, Donatella Versace’s lip augmentation procedure, Melanie Griffith’s Botox facelift, and Jocelyn Wildenstein’s facelift and lip augmentation procedure. Sigourney Weaver Says No to Plastic Surgery

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on February 4, 2010

Some celebrities are very open about the fact that they have had plastic or cosmetic surgery procedures such as breast implants, facelift surgery or Botox injections, but others hide the fact that they’ve gone under the knife. Some legendary celebs are simply saying “no” to plastic surgery altogether, preferring instead to let nature take its course. Sigourney Weaver, now in her 60s, says that she has maintained her youthful looks without any type of plastic or cosmetic surgery.

In 2007, Sigourney Weaver interviewed with People Magazine and stated that plastic surgery simply wasn’t for her. Recently, she reported to the Daily Record, a Scottish newspaper, that she enjoys regular exercise and takes good care of her skin. Still, some plastic and cosmetic surgeons agree that she could enjoy a more youthful look with a few quick cosmetic fixes.

In a recent post on, board-certified Manhattan plastic surgeon Dr. David Shafer and facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and rhinoplasty specialist Dr. Paul Nassif of Beverly Hills provided some expert recommendations  for Sigourney Weaver. Dr. Shafer suggests that Sigourney Weaver have Botox Cosmetic treatments to treat the deep lines in her forehead and crow’s feet around her eyes, as well as lip augmentation in her upper lip to improve the contours of her face.

Currently, some of the top “quick fix” solutions for getting rid of wrinkles and reversing the signs of aging include Botox, Dysport injections, laser skin resurfacing and Thermage skin tightening treatments. Many celebrity legends including Goldie Hawn and Harrison Ford have jumped aboard the plastic surgery bandwagon in recent years to take off a few decades from their looks and improve their appearance.

Still, others would prefer to age gracefully the natural way. Stars including Jane Fonda and Sally Field are among the many celebs who are simply steering clear of plastic and cosmetic surgery, and are committed to maintaining their natural looks for life.

Heidi Montag Admits Addiction to Plastic Surgery

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on January 21, 2010

Hundreds of celebrities choose to go under the knife year after year, but only a handful will admit to having that nip and tuck. For some, the obsession with perfection and achieving that ideal figure quickly spirals into an addiction.

Heidi Montag, the 23-year old reality TV star who has also appeared in Playboy magazine, has had multiple plastic surgery procedures including breast augmentation, rhinoplasty and chin reduction surgery, and according to People Magazine, is officially addicted.

In an interview with People Magazine, Heidi admits that she has had several procedures in the last few years and that she is “beyond obsessed.”

According to, Heidi underwent a total of ten procedures on November 20, 2007 just to achieve her slimmer and more svelte figure. The site reports that her lineup of procedures included a mini brow lift, Botox injections, fat injections in the cheeks, chin reduction surgery, neck liposuction, liposuction around her waist, hips and thighs, breast augmentation and breast augmentation revision.

Just nine weeks after her surgery, the star had already set her sights on larger implants.

Since Heidi is just 23 years old, many plastic surgeons believe that she is simply too young to undergo this many procedures and that she may be setting herself up for a plastic surgery disaster.

Many celebrities have already experienced their fair share of surgeries gone wrong. Hollywood starlets and celebs including Joan Rivers, Sophia Loren, Lisa Rinna, Nikki Cox and Janice Dickinson have all been criticized for going overboard with cosmetic surgery and are now role models for plastic surgery that’s one too far. Still, thousands of men and women in Hollywood and beyond continue to head to the doctor’s office in hopes of achieving their ideal figure, perfect skin and wrinkle-free appearance.

More information about the latest plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures can be found here.
