Mommy makeovers continue to be popular plastic and cosmetic surgery procedure packages at doctor’s offices around the country, a series of procedures designed to help new moms get back into pre-pregnancy shape. The typical mommy makeover consists of liposuction procedures, breast augmentation and body contouring treatments such as VelaShape and Thermage that help to tighten and tone the skin.
According to statistics released by the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in March, demand for cosmetic procedures has increased by as much as 147 percent since 1997. One plastic surgeon in Chicago explains that new mothers are just one segment of the population seeking more and more cosmetic enhancement options in recent years, and many are looking to reverse the physiological changes brought on by pregnancy and child-rearing. As a result, Dr. Brian Braithwaite, certified by the American Board Plastic Surgery and founder and medical director of The Aesthetic Institute of Chicago, is offering Mommy Makeover packages that not only help transform the new mom’s appearance, but also help her improve her self-esteem.
Dr. Braithwaite states that weight fluctuations and the body’s response to carrying a child can be difficult to improve on their own. Many changes during pregnancy affect the appearance of the breasts, face, thighs and the abdominal region, and the Mommy Makeover can address many of these aesthetic issues. Dr. Braithwaite uses both surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments to remove excess body fat, tighten the skin and restore the previous contours of the body so that the new mom can enjoy a more youthful look.
The Mommy Makeover package available at The Aesthetic Institute of Chicago includes the breast lift procedure, breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, liposuction, thigh lift, and injectable procedures such as Botox. These procedures can be combined with a tummy tuck to improve the appearance of sagging skin around the abdomen. New moms are interviewed before the procedure to ensure they have realistic expectations about the procedure, and understand all of the risks and benefits involved.

The Mommy Makeover package is currently available at dozens of plastic and cosmetic surgery centers in the United States, a package that includes procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentation and skin tightening treatments to restore a mom’s body to its pre-pregnancy appearance.
Now, many UK mothers that want to slim down and enjoy a more youthful appearance can sign up for the mommy makeover through the UK’s Hospital Group, a center that is now offering a set of special cosmetic surgery procedures for the budget-conscious mom.
The Hospital Group currently performs a wide range of breast augmentation procedures including breast reshaping, nipple reduction and breast enlargement. The center noticed a steady demand in breast reshaping procedures for women who had undergone surgery, and have created several packages just for the new mom that wants to improve her appearance.
The Hospital Group has been improving bodies and performing non-surgical and dentistry procedures since 1992. It is one of the UK’s leading providers of cosmetic surgery, hair transplantation and weight loss surgery, and currently one of the few providers of both Allergan and Natrelle breast implants. The center recommends moms undergo all or any of the following procedures to improve their appearance after giving birth: breast augmentation to correct saggy or deflated breasts; a breast uplift procedure that removes excess skin under the breast and lifts it up to create a more youthful look; a tummy tuck that helps to restore a flat stomach and creates a smoother profile, and liposuction which helps to remove stubborn areas of fat. Other options for moms include breast reduction surgery, thigh or arm lift surgery and eye bag removal surgery.
The UK’s Hospital Group currently has clinics throughout the United Kingdom with centers in Cambridge, Cardiff, Nottingham, Newcastle, Manchester, London, Liverpool and Southampton. More information about post-childbirth procedures can be found here.

Millions of women undergo extensive cosmetic and plastic surgery to reshape their bodies after pregnancy, but managing the excess weight, loose skin and stretch marks can be a costly and painful process.
The tummy tuck is one of the most sought-after procedures after pregnancy because it gets rid of excess fatty tissue around the stomach, reconstructs the abdominal wall and also gets rid of excess skin that causes the ‘baby pooch.’ Now, some doctors are experimenting with a new technique that allows them to achieve the results of the conventional tummy tuck without performing extensive surgery.
The ‘Hybrid Tummy Tuck’ is performed by plastic surgeon Brent Moelleken in Beverly Hills, California, a procedure that gets rid of the pregnancy pooch by tightening up the entire layer of skin tissue for Moms who do not have a lot of loose skin.
A full abdominoplasty typically requires a long hip-to-hip incision above the pubic line which allows the surgeon to remove excess fat and reposition the skin tissues when creating a smoother and streamlined silhouette. However, this type of extensive surgery is most appropriate for women who have a lot of excess weight and skin leftover from pregnancy; recovery time can take 2-3 weeks, and the procedure does leave behind a noticeable scar.
The Hybrid Tummy Tuck is designed for patients who have gained less than 35 pounds during pregnancy and only leaves behind a ‘C-section-type-scar’ on the lower abdomen. If the patient had a C-section, the surgeon can use the same incision in order to perform the procedure. The Hybrid Tummy Tuck costs an average of $15,000 at Dr. Moelleken’s office, and downtime can be as little as 1-2 weeks.
Dr. Moelleken explains that the best way to restore the pre-pregnancy figure still involves exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet, but surgery can be used to reshape and enhance the figure as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Many women find losing the excess weight around the midsection after giving birth to be one of the biggest challenges when trying to get back their pre-pregnancy figure.
While having one child can lead to weight gain, stretch marks and the ‘tummy pooch,’ having five children – in succession – can make it even more difficult to get back in shape. Just ask Sara Tyre of Richmond, Indiana.
Sara is busy taking care of seven children under the age of 5, and recently shared her story with the producers of the daytime talk show, “The Doctors.” According to Indystar.com, Sara Tyre was selected to receive a free tummy tuck so that she could get back in shape and enjoy being a Mom without worrying about her figure.
Cynthia Hill, Sara’s mother, explains:
“She’s very happy to have this done. This is a $10,000 operation. She e-mailed them, of course, about her stomach, and they called her back the same day. They were very interested in her.” (Source: Indystar.com)
The tummy tuck procedure was performed at The Plastic Surgery Institute in Rancho Mirage, California and is expected to be aired in December or January. The operation is designed to get rid of the excess skin around Sara’s stomach so that it is much flatter and takes on a more contoured appearance.
The tummy tuck continues to be one of the most sought-after procedures after pregnancy, and is often a part of the ‘Mommy Makeover’ package. Few women can achieve a flat stomach after pregnancy from diet and exercise alone because the abdominal muscles are literally pulled apart, creating a small ‘gap’ in the upper abdomen.
The extra skin and this hollowed effect makes it very difficult for women to achieve a sleek, flat and sculpted look. The tummy tuck helps repair the abdominal muscles and also takes care of extra skin and fat around the midsection.

While the common side effects of pregnancy include sagging breast, excess weight gain and stretch marks, many women worry that breastfeeding can cause more changes in the body and result in further drooping of the breasts.
However, researchers have recently confirmed that breastfeeding is not the cause of the post-pregnancy ‘droop’ that many women experience during their recovery days; drooping and sagging breasts may simply be the result of rapid weight and water loss after giving birth, and the skin’s inability to ‘bounce back’ to its pre-pregnancy state.
The September/October 2008 issue of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal featured a study that confirms sagging and drooping breasts are the result of age, body mass index and genetic disposition. Dr. Brian Rinker, a plastic surgeon in Lexington, Kentucky emphasizes that:
“It is widely assumed that breastfeeding will adversely affect the appearance of the breasts, and this has been a major reason cited by women who choose not to breastfeed. However, there has been very little objective data to support or deny that this is, in fact, the case. With this study, we hope to shed some light on the subject and correct any misconceptions.” (Source: Medical News Today)
Many women who have fully recovered from pregnancy can pursue breast augmentation procedures or undergo a breast lift to improve the appearance of sagging breasts. The ‘mommy makeover’ continues to be a popular option for women who want to restore their bodies back to its pre-pregnancy state and improve their body image.
Women can continue to breastfeed their child without worrying that breastfeeding is contributing to their body woes. In addition to surgery, women who want more youthful or attractive looking breasts can maintain a healthy lifestyle, exercise regularly and lift light weights to strengthen and tone their upper back and chest area.

Women already head to plastic and cosmetic surgery centers in California for innovative procedures, and body lifts, breast implants and liposuction have become a popular choice for those who want to improve their bodies after pregnancy.
Dr. Stewart Wang, one of several cosmetic surgeons in Rosemead, California recently reported a sharp increase in demand for the Mommy Makeover at his practice. Thousands of women are turning to fat removal and cellulite reduction, breast lifts and other body contouring procedures to regain their pre-pregnancy shape, or to simply undergo a complete body transformation to achieve their ‘ideal’ body. These procedures are typically offered as a package, and may help women increase their self-esteem after the drastic body changes associated with pregnancy.
Dr. Wang explains that “If you’ve had a baby, and despite taking care of yourself those loose muscles and that little roll of fat on your tummy just won’t go away, plastic surgery makes a lot of sense to you. It’s about restoring the appearance you previously enjoyed, or maybe even looking better than you ever have.” (Source: 24-7pressrelease.com)
Those who do not want to undergo surgery can improve their bodies with non-surgical treatments that get rid of cellulite and tighten and tone the skin. Thermage is another increasingly popular procedure that helps tighten loose skin and improves collagen production. Cellulite treatments such as VelaSmooth can also reduce inches and create a slimmer appearance.
