Laser Skin Resurfacing in High Demand During Recession
Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on April 1, 2009
While some people are postponing their cosmetic or plastic surgery treatment this year, many are still flocking to the nearest clinic to get a quick-fix Botox treatment and other affordable procedures.
Despite the recession, hundreds of people are undergoing laser resurfacing treatments, an anti-aging procedure that helps to eliminate fine lines and wrinkles and improves the complexion overall. Studies show that laser resurfacing alone is enough to reduce wrinkles permanently, and can help to tighten and tone up the skin a few weeks after the procedure.
The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery has deemed laser skin resurfacing to be “recession proof” because people are still willing to pay a premium price despite the economic downturn. The fact that wrinkles are removed permanently make this especially attractive for individuals who don’t want to undergo a series of Botox treatments, or pay for an even more expensive facelift.
Laser skin resurfacing ultimately improves the skin’s overall appearance and makes it stronger and more resilient. The laser energy penetrates deep into the skin tissues and stimulates collagen production; this process encourages fibroblasts under the skin to produce more and more collagen in a short period of time, which naturally ‘plumps’ up the skin and makes it appear more youthful.
This anti-aging procedure does offer several benefits for aging skin, and can be particularly effective for individuals who are noticing fine lines and wrinkles forming around their mouth, eyes and jawline. However, some people do experience side effects such as pigmentary changes, and the development of acne and milia. Hyperpigmentation, a situation where the skin becomes darker, is also a possibility with this intensive procedure. Still, most side effects disappear within one to two years.
Laser wrinkle treatment shave been approved the FDA, but the FDA warns patients to e aware of potential side effects and to follow all of the doctor’s instructions for taking care of their skin before and after the procedure.
