Obagi Launches Rosacea Skincare Line

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on February 10, 2009

obagi-rosaclearRosacea affects over 14 million men and women of all ages, and there are very few effective topical treatments available.

Rosacea causes an uncontrollable flushing and redness of the skin, which can be exarcebated by the sun, alcohol and other conditions that affect the blood pressure.

Some sufferers can make changes to their lifestyle to manage their skin condition, but Obagi Medical Products now offers an alternative solution for individuals who have not experienced results with physician-recommended products.

The Obagi Rosaclear System is the first prescription-based system designed specifically for the treatment of rosacea.  The products are designed to minimize visible redness, blotchiness and irritation, and will not clog pores.

The Rosaclear System is comprised of three products:

– Gentle Cleanser – soothes and softens the skin while removing bacteria and other irritating residues

– Metronidazole Topical Gel USP, 0.75% – for the treatment of inflammatory acne-like pimples often experienced with rosacea

– Hydrating Complexion Corrector – ucontains calming agents to protect and moisturize the skin, as well as minerals to minimize redness

One of the key products is the Metronidazole Topical Gel; this highly-concentrated gel helps reduce the size of papules and pustules that often accompany rosacea.  The calming lotion solution  contains lavender and aloe to soothe the skin and stimulate the healthy healing process. Obagi has also develoepd a Rosaclear Sun Protection solution to further reduce inflammation after sun exposure, and this can be used on top of the gel and Corrector lotion throughout the day.

According to a recent press release, the Obagi Rosaclear System was available through physicians as of January 2009. Test results and studies show that over 90 percent of test subjects experienced a significant reduction in redness and ongoing improvements in the condition of their skin for up to four weeks.

The set of thre products retails for $150.00, and will is available at select medical spas, cosmetic surgery and dermatology offices throughout the country.

Some dermatologists also recommend Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and other light-based treatments that help to rejuvenate the skin from inside out and reduce the rosacea breakout cycle.  However, the Obagi system is showing promising results and may be a valuable alternative to high-priced treatments.
