Demand for Macrolane Breast Augmentation on the Rise

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on December 8, 2008

Women interested in breast augmentation and breast enhancement procedures often turn to silicone or saline breast implants to achieve their ideal silhouette.  However, the costs and recovery time involved with implants can prevent many women from going ahead with the procedure, so some cosmetic surgeons are offering non-invasive breast shaping procedures as  temporary alternative.

Macrolane injections for breast augmentation have become increasingly popular in recent years as a solution for creating fuller, plumper-looking breasts.  Macrolane is a dermal filler procedure performed under local anaesthetic, and involves injecting the breast with a clear, hyularonic gel to increase the size of the breast tissues. The dermal filler was developed by Swedish scientists specifically for breast augmentation and is currently only available in the UK and Europe.  The average cost of ranges between costs an $4,000 – $7,000 per treatment.

According to Surgicare, one of the UK’s largest cosmetic surgery providers, demand for Macrolane has grown rapidly over the past few months as more women look for a quick-fix solution before the holiday season.  The non-invasive breast enhancement procedure is painless and offers instant results, and since there are no bandages involved, women can show off their new look with the season’s latest low-cut dresses and other party ensembles without worrying about covering up scars from incisions.

The Macrolane procedure takes between one to two hours to perform, and results are expected to last between 12-18 months.  The injections are administered into key areas of the breast tissue and the gel quickly adapts to the natural shape of the breast.  This helps create a smooth and sleek appearance, and patients feel very little pain and soreness immediately after the procedure.

Since hyularonic acid is eventually metabolized by the body, touch up treatments may be needed to maintain results. Patients who undergo the Macrolane procedure can pursue maintenance treatments 12-18 months after the initial treatment to maintain their breast size.
