Spider Vein Removal with Veinwave Ready for U.S. in Winter 2008

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on October 10, 2008

Spider veins commonly found on the legs and ‘thread veins’ found around the face affect millions of people each year, and very few laser and treatment devices on the market can effectively get rid of these unsightly veins for good.

A new high-frequency technology called Veinwave™ from Europe will be entering the U.S. market this winter, a device that the maker and vascular surgeon Dr. Brian Newman says will help permanently get rid of thread veins and help improve the texture of the skin. Current treatments for spider veins (sclerotherapy) involve injecting a saline solution into the skin to expand the vein and cause it to break down; after that, compression garments and stockings can be worn to help shut down the vein completely.  Still, this type of treatment cannot target very small areas around the face, or hard-to-reach areas behind the knees.

The Veinwave™ device may also be used to treat rosacea, a common skin problem for many Americans who typically turn to antibiotics or IPL treatments to help clear up the skin. Veinwave™ works by clearing the skin of any acid buildup that results from antibiotics and drugs, and requires no anesthesia or downtime.

According to Dr. Newman’s website, Veinwave™ treatments provide instant results so patients don’t have to worry about using bandages, wearing special make-up or taking any anasthetics/painkillers throughout the treatment.  It’s a quick, painless and effective treatment that is currently available in the U.K., and may be making its way to the United States in late 2008.

Veinwave™ works by emitting high frequency energy through a very fine needle, essentially collapsing the vein without affecting any of the surrounding tissue.

This video explains how the treatment works:

Veinwave™ is currently distributed by a European medical company, but is partnering with a major U.S. distributor.

I had veinwave in the UK a few years ago from the man who invented the machine (so it wasn’t the result of the practitioner being unpracticed)- SERIOUS WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. Much better results with traditional sclerotherapy.
