Bye-Bye to BOTOX? Beauty Foods Serve Up Anti-Aging Solutions

Posted by Cosmetic Surgery Review on July 15, 2008

While superfoods and antioxidant-rich diets have plenty of skin rejuvenation benefits, some companies are launching a lineup of ‘beauty foods’ that might really give your diet a boost.

Collagen marshmallows, ‘functional’ water and anti-aging yogurt are just a few new food trends in the growing ‘nutraceuticals’ industry.

Borba Skin Balance Water

Borba’s Skin Balance Water line continues to enjoy success in the U.S. market after a summer 2007 launch with Anheuser-Busch. A sampler pack of bottled water and ‘Aqua-less Crystalline’ packets that can be mixed with water and juice costs $20, and each flavor has a specific purpose; age defying, firming, clarifying or replenishing. Skin Balance Water contains exotic fruit extracts, vitamins and minerals to keep the skin well-hydrated and improve tone and texture.

Probiotics fans are enjoying a spoonful of enzyme-rich yogurt fortified with Omega-6 and other antioxidants that can give the skin a boost of nutrition. Danone has launched several unique flavors in Europe, South America and Asia with the ‘Essence’ line, but is currently battling court charges regarding its ‘Activia’ brand in the U.S. Probiotics are essential for healthy digestion and high-performing metabolism; without them, the skin and hair can become dry and dull.

And collagen marshmallows?

Eiwa Confectionary of Japan is the company that insists ‘There is a marshmallow for your life’, and presented these beauty sweets at the Fancy Food Show in San Francisco in 2007. The marshmallows are made with 3000 mg of collagen to promote healthy skin from the inside out. Collagen is the necessary compound needed for firm and resilient skin, and many skin rejuvenation procedures are designed to increase the rate of collagen production.

Is it really time to skip the BOTOX and facial treatments? With the number of nutraceuticals on the rise, we may have more options for getting rid of wrinkles and enhancing the skin without surgery.
